A wheelset is one of the main parts of a bogie. It is assembled by an axle and two identical wheels in accordance with the specified interference and at the specified pressure. The wheelset is a component directly related to the safety of train operation, so it must have enough strength, rigidity, elasticity, and wear resistance, and the mass should be as small as possible under the premise of ensuring safety.
The function of wheelsets is to bear all static and dynamic loads from the locomotive and vehicles, transfer it to the rail, and transfer the load caused by the line irregularity to all parts of the vehicle. In addition, the driving and braking of rolling stock also work through wheelsets.

- Flange: the flange is designed to ensure the vehicle to move along the rail and prevent the wheel from derailing;
- Wheel tread: the tread is the part of the wheel in direct contact with the rail. In order to make the wheelset pass the curve and run smoothly on the rail, reduce the wheel wear, and extend the spinning wheel kilometers, the tread should have a reasonable shape;
- Axle: the axle mainly plays the role of connecting two wheels, and its two ends should also meet the axle box oil lubrication device to ensure the safe driving of the vehicle.

The assembly pressure and pressing process of axle and wheel are strictly required. The distance between the inside of the wheelset must be within 1353 ± 3 mm. In order to ensure the smooth operation of the train and reduce the interaction force and running resistance between wheel and rail, the processing ovality and eccentricity of axle journal and wheel tread, as well as the taper of axle journal should not exceed the specified limit.
The load of the wagon applied to the axle is changing constantly, and the alternating stress is produced in the axle due to the continuous rotation of the wheelset. Therefore, the axle we produce is made of high-strength and durable materials. At the same time, we have carried out the full-length rotary machining of the axle during the manufacturing process, and strengthened the axle pressure on the journal and wheel seat, and set the load reduction groove at the wheel seat and the arc transition of the back shoulder of the Journal (rolling bearing).
The contact part between wheel and rail will bear great pressure during train running, and its contact surface will produce elastic deformation and great contact stress; During operation, the left and right wheels inevitably roll on the rail with different diameters, resulting in sliding and wheel wear; When braking, the wheel tread is also severely worn by the brake shoe, and produces high temperature.
The above situation determines that the material of wheel tread must have high strength, hardness, impact toughness, and good wear resistance. The hub pressed on the axle mainly bears the elastic force, while the spoke only bears the pressure and bending force. Therefore, the material of these parts needs to have high toughness. In order to meet the above requirements, different materials can be used for the tyre and wheel center of the tyre wheel.
